About Wythenshawe park

Wythenshawe Park In the south of Manchester is one of the many wonderful parks that host a variety of nature. The Park is a popular location for many families including mine. The park is 100 hectares of open parkland and is host to many projects and clubs keen to raise awareness of nature and all it has to offer.

It features parkland, historic and ornamental woodland, herbaceous borders, formal bedding and wildflower meadows. There are also sports facilities and a community farm. Bringing you a healthy nature experience to your doorstep.

What's on Offer

The park is a base for Wythenshawe Bee club, the Blossom healthy living project, riding stables, horticultural centre and a community farm, all of which provide great services to the local community of Manchester.

The park’s 13 woodlands boast a variety of trees including Sycamore, Oak, Willow Alder, Beech, Larch, Hazel, Cherry Laurel, Scots Pine and Rhododendron, Norway Maple, Pin Oak, Lime and Horse Chestnut. The woodlands are great to explore, and you can find all kinds of forgeable plants such as Nettles and Wild Garlic to name a few.

The woods are home to many species of birds and if you are lucky enough you may spot the Parakeets as well as a few hawks. Early morning provides an orchestra of bird song and acrobatic Squirrels making it a really pleasant walk with natures free live entertainment for all the family.

Whatever your interests, you will find something to entertain you and the family at the park. Along with a café and ice cream van there are plenty of refreshments or you could make use of the many picnic tables and have a picnic.

Wythenshawe Park Horticultural centre

The Wythenshawe Park Horticultural centre displays the Safari Walk which features tropical plants such as banana, pineapple, tea, coffee and rice, water features, an aviary, alpine garden and display of cacti. My family have spent many a happy hour having a picnic and wondering through the displays.

At the horticultural centre are Blossom. The aim of Blossom is to promote wellbeing through positive activity, reconnecting people with the food we eat and the enjoyment of nature. Along with their valued volunteers the Blossom team has a wealth of experience working in Wythenshawe and South Manchester and pride themselves on supporting people to build confidence to make lasting change to their lives.
